The evil tempter caramel muffin

Fasting is difficult, but I love it. It is such a blessing, to open your spirit to the wonders of God. Satan knows how beneficial it is that he will do anything to interrupt it. This day was no exception! I will never forget the cunning way he literally devised this.

It was during my annual fast and while at work I was craving a caramel muffin. Now I never eat caramel muffins. I adore caramel, but not as a muffin. I run for the lemon poppy seed or the beloved chocolate. Never ever caramel. But the craving was insatiable. My mouth was watering thinking about it, to the point of frustration. I could taste it. I tried praying it away but it just never went. I can’t tell you how crazy I was for a caramel muffin!
Eventually I just tried ignoring it.

I also started wondering where my Manager was, she was almost an hour late. She never called in like she usually would if she was running late.
Much later, in she storms, carrying a brown paper bag. She exclaimed excitedly, “Wow! Traffic is bad this morning! On the way to work, I don’t know why, but I wanted to get some muffins. The traffic jam to get into the place was impossible! I had to wait 20 minutes just to get a parking. But I really wanted to get us some muffins! Here – I got you a caramel one.

Errrm…I kid you not. How sneaky was Satan’s plan? She was over an hour late for work trying with all her might to get, not just  a muffin, but a caramel one! I did not want to tell her I was fasting, so I thanked her for the muffin and kept it for my daughter when I got home. I was so shocked but I saw it immediately for what it was. I was being tempted to have my blessing taken away for a muffin. Red lentil stew anyone?

She would also never eat lunch at work, she was just one of those people. I also badly craved pizza that week and she came and sat at my desk with a pizza to ‘chat’. Eating in front of me! In the four years I worked there that never ever happened again!

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 1 Peter 5:8

In what ways have you been tempted during fasting, Reader?

wow! what a story! i know what you mean. It is like as soon as you try to do something for the Lord and oops! the enemy shows up masquerading. Mine isn’t food but appliances, tech products, phones, etc. We have gone through more repairs on all of them; at present my brand new Acer Aspire I have had only 3 months is in Texas for repairs. A manufacture problem from the beginning. Ya think he doesn’t want me to blog!

Always, right. And the more involved you are in the Kingdom, the more fight you get! LOL, he definitely does not want you to blog! Take it as a compliment hehe

Sadly, I have never taken the opportunity to do a fast. Yes, Satan had you just where he wanted you. Praise the LORD you were able to stand up against his schemes.

Yes we can never try by our flesh or else my fasts would never go past day 3! I encourage you to try, even if just one day in the beginning-theres nothing like it! 🙂 thanks for commenting 🙂

    Talk about temptation. Good story.

I sometimes get food dreams while fasting. Also, I remember one where I said I was fasting in the dream but I kept on forgetting and putting food in my mouth. When I realized I was fasting, I spat it out. There are other ways the enemy has tempted me but when I go into praise and worship I think the hunger starts to disappear a bit.

Its amazing how many different ways he tempts us! It just motivates me cuz it proves he knows exactly the benefits of it! You’re right about the praise and worship- the only thing better to get rid of hunger than a piece of chocolate cake hehe. Thanks for commenting 🙂

I usually fast in three day stretches. It is usually on the night between day two and three, that I get tempted with a dream or strong temptations that I have to rebuke. It seem to be a pattern. I do this often some I remember it well. Kind of like when Jesus fasted, “and satan came and tempted him”. I think satan really hates it when we fast. He wants to keep us in bondage and under the law of the flesh. His worst nightmare is that we began to walk in the spirit and see him for what he is. The key is that we resist him and do not yield. I always feel the victory when I overcome and complete my fast. The word says “Then satan left Jesus and the angels came and ministered to him”. Good article.

I have a question – how do you fast? Do you stop eating from set periods of the day or do you only eat at night etc? Thanks :)!

      Hi 🙂
I stick to only vegetables once a day. So I will go without food all day and then have a small amount of veggies at night. It also depends on how the Holy Spirit leads me- recently He led me to do a 7 day fast only skipping dinner. I’ve tried doing fasts with no food or water for longer than a day but I cant- I have low blood pressure and end up getting very dizzy. I once landed up in my dining room from my bedroom having no idea how I got there haha!

Haha! That would be quite odd! My church has recently completed a time for fasting and prayer however i didnt feally feel like i could get involved as i felt i am way too spiritually immature. I’ve been brought up in a christian family but fell away for about 5 years. I m back now and feeling closer to Him than I ever have. Your blogs are so on point and are really encouraging. Please keep up the good work!

If you wanna know about my church, it’s http://www.destinyedinburgh.com/ 🙂
