Traffic Light salvation

In May last year I noticed a beggar standing on the corner by the traffic light I pass every day from work. He had never been there before. When he first greeted me, I took an instant liking to him. He is so warm, sweet and funny. As the days went by the Holy Spirit stepped in- I think Richard standing at that traffic light was the Holy Spirit’s doing. He gave me compassion and love for Richard, and I would often bring him some lunch or pack some goodies for him. We quickly became friends.

He pressed heavily on my heart to speak to Richard about the gospel. Now, this has always frightened me – I get dry mouth, stutter and totally freeze. But I’ve learned those are times when I do it in my own flesh and strength. This time I prayed for the Holy Spirit to help me and to give me boldness. I found this was the key – before I left work every day I would pray for boldness and to say whatever He wanted me to say. I was quite surprised that I was not nervous and spoke freely – I could not do that ever without praying, I would always fail. When I would fail, I would be upset and think, “this is too hard, it’s like making a sales call!” 😉

Anyway, turned out Richard once upon a time read his Bible, but got into smoking marijuana and his life went downhill from there. I knew the day had to come when I had to ask if he would like to give his heart to Jesus. Two things were hindering me – complete nerves (because even though I had more boldness than ever, this was crunch time!) and the place where he stood made it difficult to talk. We could talk as long as the traffic light stayed red!

Days passed and I would drive away from that light not having asked him that important life changing decision, always thinking, “Ok, tomorrow!” One day as I drove away, the Holy Spirit firmly said, “Do not tarry!” I had to quickly look up the definition of tarry to refresh my memory if it indeed means ‘to wait’, and it does. Oops 😦

I decided I had better be obedient in case something happened to Richard! The next time I saw him, I found a spot to pull over and led him to salvation. He was so sweet, he did it with a huge smile on his face! And surprisingly said, “You know, the Bible says when two are gathered together, He is here with us. So God is here with us now!” I said, “Yes amen! And welcome to the Kingdom my buddy!”

This important lesson I will take with me always – to 1) pray for God-given opportunities to lead someone to salvation and not waste them and 2) always pray that the Holy Spirit gives me boldness in that day and leads me 100% in both words and actions.
I have not seen Richard for four months, but before that he told me that he had just gotten a part-time job! Isn’t that wonderful, how God already started working in his life!
Your Kingdom came, Your will was done 🙂

Alleluia from head to foot

Something cool happened last week. My colleague mentioned something that surprised me, which got me thinking about how the world views Christians. If you have been on my blog for 5 minutes you would know what an animal lover I am. I had walked in from lunch excitedly telling her that I finally got the feral cat I feed here on campus to trust me. So she said to me, “you know, you have really influenced me to see animals in a better light. I never thought much of them other than being ‘just an animal’. But I feel for them now. Yesterday I saw an injured bird and for the first time my heart really broke for an animal, I was so sad. I view them differently now.”

I was surprised, because it has never been my intention to get her to change her mind and heart about animals! Cool! Basically, my genuine love, enthusiasm and passion for animals was the only thing that got her to see a different viewpoint.
Looking back, what I did not do was lecture her, force her to see things differently (“For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world…” John 3:17) or speak badly of others who do not like animals (“Love your enemies…” Luke 6:27)

I won her over without even trying! I looked at Scripture on how we can apply the same behaviour as children of God for His Son:

I am always expressing my genuine love for animals, either in what I say or in recues/help
-“Therefore let no one boast in men. For all things are yours” 1 Cor 3:21
-“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends” John 15:13
above all things have fervent love for one another” 1 Peter 4:8
-“Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.” 1 John 3:18

-“But the fruit of the Spirit is love” Gal 5:22
-“present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God” Romans 12:1

I am constantly singing their praises of cuteness and wonder
-“proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” 1 Peter 2:9
-“I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth” Ps 34:1
-“I will declare Your name to My brethren; in the midst of the assembly I will sing praise to You” Hebrews 2:12
-“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be My witnesses…” Acts 1:8

My joy and enthusiasm just exude naturally when I talk about, or are around, them
-“the fruit of the Spirit is.. joy, peace…” Gal 5:22
-“Rejoice in the Lord always.” Phil 4:4
-“Abstain from all appearance of evil.” 1 Thessalonians 5:22
-“The light of the righteous rejoices” Proverbs 13:9

People have said when I’m around animals, my face shines
-“They looked to Him and were radiant, and their faces were not ashamed” Ps 34:5
-“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden” Matt 5:14
-“Gentiles will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising”  Isaiah 60:3
-“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
-“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light” Ephesians 5:8

The world is dark – people need to see how excited Jesus makes us so that they can’t help but be attracted to what is making us so happy! This is just a drop in the ocean of getting people to realise Christ’s love for them. But if all we do and say glorifies God, who can resist Him!

Praying for salvation – the charcoal breastplate

I have been praying and fasting for my dad’s salvation. He just does not believe. When we ask him if he believes that Jesus died on a cross for our sins, his response is “I dunno. It’s just a mystery.” But when you try to explain “the mystery” he does not want to hear it. All he says is that he thinks Buddhism is quite interesting because they are peaceful people. He also has a lot of intellectual strongholds that keep him from seeing the true beauty and simplicity of Jesus and His finished work at the Cross.

But this is why I love fasting. It’s extremely difficult at times but provides so much revelation into what you are praying for!

When I would pray for my dad I would see/picture him with this weird charcoal looking thing covering his whole chest. I did not think anything of it because I thought it was just my mind conjuring up images while I prayed.

But it happened every single time I would pray for him. Eventually I said, “Lord, is this my imagination? Why do I keep picturing my dad with that weird charcoal cover over his whole chest?”

I actually never expected an answer, but immediately He answered and said, “Just as I have provided you with a breastplate of righteousness, so does Satan have his own ‘protection’. The charcoal you see is the covering he has placed over your dad to prevent him from receiving My gospel. Look at 2 Corinthians 10:4 – the word for stronghold there is the same as ‘fortress’. Satan has his own fortresses just like I do. That charcoal breastplate is your dad’s fortress so that nothing of Me can get in.”

Looking at the verse He showed me it says “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds”. Mind blowing right!! I just got this awesome picture of how He truly reigns on His throne. He sees everything and is in control of everything.

So I said, almost to myself, “Oh ok, this is brilliant! I would think Satan would make sure to cover him around his entire body – his back is left completely open from what I see.”

Guess what He said…

Wait for it…

God is so cool…

 “Cowards attack from the back.”

Ha! I actually laughed. I can’t get over this conversation! What an eye opener to praying for someone’s salvation! So while my dad is “protected” from receiving the gospel from the front, Satan can keep attacking him from the back, with beliefs in Buddhism, mysteries, intellectualism etc. From what I sensed, that charcoal breastplate is very thick -so there is a lot more fasting and praying that will have to be done!

But God is so exciting!!!
It just amazes me how the Creator of Heaven and earth can come down to my puny little level and give me a glimpse of what is going on spiritually to make my prayers more effective.

God, you are GREAT! There is just no word to describe Your excellence!!

Dream of my unsaved friend

I believe God gave me a tiny glimpse of a small inkling of the anguish He feels when a soul is lost, and how the unsaved feel when they fall into the pit and have eventually realised all hope is now definitely gone.

We grew up with family friends from a small age, my parents are still good friends with them. Us children lost contact with each other along the way though.
However, the eldest son who was my age was always a naughty boy and eventually dabbled in cocaine. He died of drug-induced heart failure in 2010. It was a shock to everyone. Somehow humans never believe it will happen to someone you know, just because you well, know them.
I was very sad for him because he had not come to know the Lord and the funeral was very upsetting.

One night after the funeral I dreamt of him. It was not a normal every day dream, but vivid and clear and felt very very real.

We were on a beach. I could see the ocean, and it had a lot of small dunes covered in vegetation and Marram grass. There were also a lot of trees. And he told me to follow him as he wanted to show me something. His back was always facing me though and I never got to see him face to face.

So I started following him and then he stopped and said, “No wait, it’s this way.” And we started going another way. We were in amongst the trees. And he stopped again and said, “No hold on, it’s this way!” I asked what he was looking for and he replied, “Just follow me, I will show you.” So I followed him again.
This confusion happened about 4 or 5 times and eventually he stopped dead in his tracks and started crying and said, “I’m so lost!” He put his face into his hands and crouched down onto his haunches in the sand and I felt the most awful weight of sorrow. I started crying and all I could do was crouch down next to him and hold him really tight around his shoulders. I felt such terrible pity. I was so incredibly sad for him.

Can you imagine how much more sorrow our Father feels when a soul is lost forever?

Love, before it’s too late

I attended a friend’s son’s funeral last week. There is something so gravely horrid about a parent burying their child.
He was 20, such a lovely kid, always smiling, I honestly never saw him angry or in a bad mood.

He was very good to me, respectful, and never had a bad word to say.

And the one thing that would not leave me was the thought of the one time I was nasty to him. His dad had been interfering in our marriage for far too long. I was angry and fed up, so when his son had messaged me on my BlackBerry asking for assistance from my husband  with something (as my husband’s phone was getting repaired), I took it out on him by just ignoring his message. Three times.

How stupid. How insanely pathetic.

It crushes my heart thinking back to that.
Why does it always take death for humans to realize the awful weight of sin? Only then did I see the clarity of how ridiculous my actions were! What did it accomplish by ignoring his message? Nothing. Just plain old poison, defiled by what came out of my heart.

Thankfully, he was saved. But what if he had not been? My actions would never have reflected the love of Christ and a soul would have been lost. Into the abyss. Again.
I died to myself more that day. I have no point other than serving the True King and bringing people into His kingdom. That’s it. I am not worthy of anything else. Especially having a temper tantrum at another beautiful human being, who definitely did not deserve it. If he learnt of my hissy fit at the time, he would’ve giggled it off, as he always saw a positive in a negative. But that’s not the point.

I had since asked for forgiveness for that sin. But I don’t want that poison sitting in me ever again. This situation made me see the foolishness of our ugly flesh. I don’t ever want to waste time by feeding my flesh where I could be using the moment for God’s kingdom and glory.

At the end of the funeral service, we could all write a message in a book for him. I wrote:

“You were always so good to me. I wish there was more time, but wait for me at my mansion…”

Forgive us Father, for the moments we waste on ourselves instead of using it for Your benefit. Amen.

Last week my husband had the following dream:

He was in a huge open field. All he could see was field and sky. The sky was huge and bright blue with massive clouds. Everything seemed larger than normal.
All of a sudden he saw four angels appear in the sky. He said they were ginormous and beautiful. They were looking down toward earth as if searching for something. All of a sudden Jesus appeared among the angels. He said Jesus, too, was huge and He took up almost the entire sky. The angels continued searching and Jesus said to them, “Don’t forget – we only have space for ten thousand!”
My husband then saw the number “114” and the dream ended.

This is clearly a dream that Jesus’ return is fast approaching. The way the angels had to search really hard for people on earth reminds me of Matthew 22:14 “For many are called, but few are chosen.” There is no time left and too few people!

I have no idea what the number 114 pertains to? I thought maybe it could refer to a book in the Bible? Hebrews 1:14 states about angels, “Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?”
I’m really not sure.

Fascinating times!

Electricity can’t match the power of our Living God!

I love to hear of testimonies that show how powerful and great our God is!
I have been blessed to grow up in a family that is saved and given their lives to Christ, which enabled me to be saved from a very early age. Everyone on my mother’s side of the family is saved, so to get to fellowship together and tell of the latest and greatest that God has accomplished in our lives is one of my favourite treats!

I would like to share a testimony with you from my cousin, Kylah, which definitely demonstrates the power our God has, and the authority available to us in Jesus name!

One morning after church, my cousin’s husband Antonie, received a phone call from one of the staff members that works with them. She was hysterical and asking them to please come over as her husband was trying to commit suicide.

On their way to the house, my cousin prayed for her husband and herself, asking the Lord to send His angels before them for protection (Psalm 91). They took up the armor of God (Ephesians 6), and prayed for boldness, and that the Holy Spirit would lead them in this trying situation.

When they arrived at the house, the little 5 year old girl came running towards my cousin– screaming and crying, telling her that she loves her daddy, but that he was busy killing himself! Kylah just took her in her arms, and told her that everything was going to be okay and that the Lord Jesus was going to help them.
Kylah’s heart went out to the little girl, but
asked her to take them to her father. She led them to the back of the house and there they found him- he had tied himself with electric wires to a transformer box, and only had to switch on the switch in the box and he would be electrocuted!

His wife was standing next to him, pleading with him to untie himself, pleading with him to think of the children.
Their little two year old boy ran up to his dad and started pulling on his leg and saying, “Come daddy, come!”

As Kylah stood there she could almost not believe what was happening before her eyes. She recounted how she really felt like David who had been faced with this giant Goliath!

Kylah stood back for a while, whispered a prayer and asked God to lead her.

Kylah asked his wife to take the kids and go inside. She then walked up to the husband, put her arm on the box and her other hand on his shoulder. At first Antonie wanted to stop her from touching him or the box in fear that she would get shocked herself; but she wasn’t scared. She said that she did not come with worldly ways, but with the power of God!

She prayed and spoke to him for about 30-45 minutes – but she said that the way Holy Spirit was leading her in her prayers and her chats with him was just amazing!

He then told Kylah to call his wife. She went back down to go and get his wife. When they  came back up, the wife went and stood closer to him and Kylah and her husband stood back.

His wife started pleading and crying again, and he just did not want to budge. Kylah’s husband started talking to him and she praised the Holy Spirit for leading him and giving him words of wisdom.

At that stage, Kylah just knelt down and just kept on saying, “I command that electricity not to flow in the Name of Jesus!”

He went ahead and put on the switch 3 times!!
But our faithful God intervened with His own hand of power and not an ounce of electricity flowed! After the 3rd attempt to electrocute himself, he just stood back, looked up at Kylah and Antonie, ripped the wires off his wrists and fell to his knees in tears!

And afterwards they did switch it on and there was electricity flowing!!

Antonie was with him for a while praying for him, and Kylah went back to the house and comforted his wife and children.

The police then arrived and Kylah went out to meet them – they advised her that the negotiator was on his way, but she told them, “you can tell your negotiator to turn around and go home, JESUS NEGOTIATED FOR US TODAY!!”

Be blessed, Readers, be bold, we serve a MIGHTY GOD!!!!

The night my husband was saved – a demonic attack!

When leading someone to salvation I always try to remember to tell them not to expect fireworks or angels coming down from Heaven to sing them a melody. Too often people complain that once they accept Christ they “never felt anything.” And they end up disappointed. It is so important to let them know that the insurmountable joy and peace you receive is far better than worldy joy, and it is based on faith, and our walk with Jesus will never be based on feelings.

So after waiting for this for 5 years, what do I get? I got the exact opposite of singing angels the night my husband gave his life to Christ. After a joyous experience, I got a houseful of angry and revengeful demons!

We had just bought a new bed and my husband’s back was taking a lot of strain getting used to it, and as a consequence, hardly getting any sleep. The night he was saved he said he was going to sleep in the spare bedroom to try catch up on some sleep. I had then offered my daughter Jordan, who was 3 at the time, a special treat to sleep with mommy that night, to which she excitedly agreed.

Out of nowhere, just after midnight, Jordan woke up with the most terrifying blood curdling scream I have ever heard come out of her mouth. I sat up with a shock trying to calm her down, thinking she was having a bad dream. I put on the light but her screams never stopped and she jumped into my arms and screamed, “Mommy, get them away from me!” I was so confused and told her she was having a dream and that I was there to help her, but the look on her face registered pure terror as she clung tightly round my neck and looked back in horror at something behind her.  At this point I could see this child was actually wide awake and not dreaming. She clung again and screamed, “Mommy! Mommy! Please! Get the monkey away from me!” And then I knew. My child was under attack. I furiously rebuked the demon bothering her and commanded that he leave the house at once in Jesus’ name.

At that point my husband came running into the room asking what was going on and when I told him he said that he just saw a demonic evil looking wolf growling at him and drooling. Being married to a wife who had told him about every bit of spiritual warfare for the previous 5 years, he knew to rebuke the demon he had seen in Jesus’ name; but Jordan’s screams were the perfect opportunity of getting him to sprint out of the room to where we were instead of being alone! It was great to see though – my newly saved husband being bold in Christ rebuking demons left right and centre!

Jordan then screamed again and backed up right against the bed’s headboard shouting, “Mommy get them away from me!” To see pure terror on your child’s face is not a party. I said, “Demons! I take authority over you in the name of Jesus Christ and I command you to leave Jordan and remove yourself from this house at once! She is covered by the blood of the Lamb and you have no right to her!” Things then calmed down and Jordan seemed okay, but asking her to go back to sleep was pretty much out of the question.

I offered that we go play in her bedroom and she agreed. She wanted to build a puzzle. Building puzzles at 1am is just awesome, especially when you have uninvited guests. We sat on the floor and she wanted to be close to me, so she came to sit on my lap. No sooner had she picked up the first puzzle piece when she jumped up in horror and backed away toward the door looking at me like I was an alien. I asked what was wrong and she pointed to me with a quivering blood drained lip and said, “Mommy, there’s an owl on your lap!” (!!) Do you know how difficult it is to remain calm with a demon on your lap and not freak out so that your child doesn’t freak out? Try not to scream, it will make the situation worse. Just be calm, you already have the victory in Christ, you only need to apply it. I calmly, and not loudly, rebuked the demon off my lap in the name of Jesus. I could see it fled because Jordan’s face relaxed and she came back to me.
I anointed her room and kicked any demons out again.
The struggle continued until about 4h30am and then only was she able to go to sleep.

Satan doesn’t hate anything more than salvation! I think he was particularly livid about my husband’s salvation because my husband was pretty worldly! But if he wants to release an army of demons on you to get you to change your mind, he will. Just be ready. Your salvation means you have already won because of Christ. Just take the devil by the horns  fight him off with the weapon Jesus has given you – His victory on the cross!
