40 days of abstinence

I feel the Holy Spirit has been pushing me to completely abstain from television for 40 days. I have quickly come to the realisation lately that TV has too much of a hold on me. I love to come home from a busy day at work and just relax with a cup of coffee in front of the TV.

My daily time with the Lord is once my toddler is in bed, but ashamedly now and then I am so tired after a hectic day that I end up choosing to ‘veg’ in front of programs or God TV instead of God Himself! Which makes TV an idol! Watching Christian programs does not constitute spending time with God, in my opinion. I do NOT want anything to be a god to me other than God Himself!

Thou shalt have no other gods before Me. Exodus 20:3

It is my hope that after the 40 days, the bondage to TV will be broken and that no matter how tired, I will gladly opt to rest in the presence of Jesus and not a sitcom.

For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness…and broke their chains in pieces. Psalms 107:9,14

I first thought this would be a daunting task, but excitement is growing, as I know the Lord will reveal Himself in a deeper way during this time.
Blessed be the Lord my Rock!

Where your treasure is your heart will be also (Matt 6:21). What other things, if any, are you able to set aside in your life to make more time for God?

Dedicating bits of myself to God – my garden

With our hectically busy lives we sometimes struggle with finding time to spend with our Saviour. I also try to find moments where I can dedicate things to my Lord, in honour of Him.

I once read a book called “My Time in Heaven ” by Richard Siegmund about his experience in Heaven. It is a beautiful book and I highly recommend it. The one part of the book that stuck out for me was that he mentioned that Jesus has his own rose garden in Heaven as He loves roses. That inspired me to completely drown my garden in roses so that when I spend time with Him, on warm South African nights, I can do it in my garden among the roses!

I definitely do not have green fingers so I do need help from His side! But I hope to eventually get my garden bright and beautiful, for the display of His splendour!

Thanks to my husband’s crafty hedge clipping skills, my heart-shaped Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow tree, to symbolise God’s unending love for His children and that He remains the same yesterday, today and forever
